It wasn't voluntary, but the world benefited from a period of collective introspection. Let's do it every month: one day to figure out where we go next.
The global lockdown has created an unprecedented and eerie human experience: literal isolation coupled with mass togetherness.
We may be stuck in our homes.
But we are also all going through the same emotions.
Notably, for most people, there has been more time to think.
Enforced isolation has an element of retreat.
A collective pause in the unstoppable routine of our everyday existence.
Could we make this one-off experience a regular one?
A World Day Off.
Organised by the UN.
Every year humanity takes one day to reflect together on how far we have come. And where we need to change course.
And remind us that we all in this together, and collectively in charge of humanity’s direction.
STAGE: HELP REQUIRED
This proposal will only make sense to implement when life gets back to “normal”. But in the meantime let’s seed the idea: lobby the Secretary-General of UN to designate the World Day Off as an official international day. We will pass on your messages.
